When you ask a real estate agent what one of the most important things to look for in a place, they will tell you "location, location, location". So why is location all that important? Well several factors come to play, but I will describe the main three reasons why it's all about location.
1) If your business has an address with an unfamiliar city name, people are less likely to give your business the attention it deserves. This is because people tend to trust, pick, and like things they are familiar with. For example, if a business had the location of Carefree, Arizona, there's a lot of people who are not familiar with that place and so they may think your business is less valid or untrustworthy. However, I think it's safe to say that Phoenix, Arizona is pretty well known throughout most of the business world. It's crazy, but just changing the name of the city your company is growing in, will more than likely increase your business.
2) The physical appearance of where you're located and the surrounding areas will greatly impact the success rate of your business. People generally don't like areas that look unsafe, dirty, and unprofessional. You could be losing business just because potential customers are afraid to come near the area. Think of this as the "curb appeal" point because people will assume that the outside/surrounding areas of your business reflects the quality of your products/services as well.
3) Finally, for 99% of small businesses, they need to put themselves out there in order to grow. Sure, you may be able to do everything from home, but you're not really doing yourself, or your potential consumers, any favors by keeping your business hidden. Having your location in a well known area, that's clean/professional, and surrounded by other businesses, will ultimately expose your business to people who would not have otherwise heard of it.
